Responsibilities:
- Chief Engineer shall be the Head of Engine Department. He is responsible to Master for the management of the engineering department and for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance and repair of the boilers, propulsion unit, and all cargo handling equipment and all machineries and electrical items onboard the vessel.
- He is responsible for the vessel’s Planned Maintenance System, ensuring that PMS is carried out in accordance with Company’s guidelines.
- He is responsible for ensuring that all engineering records are properly and accurately maintained at all times and reporting to Head Office on a regular basis.
- He is responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of all machineries and machinery spaces and all compartments throughout the ship that areused for the storage of tools, spare gear, engine stores, fuel, thermal boiler and lubricating oil required for the operation of the machinery.
- He is responsible for the proper upkeep of Oil Record Book Part I, as per procedures at SOPM Vol. 4 Section 1 .
- He shall keep the Master fully informed of problems with machinery or equipment and the implications on the vessel’s seaworthiness.
- He is responsiblefor ensuring that all applicable rules arecomplied with, and all regulations and instructions are correctly implemented and carried out. He is responsible for providing adequate supervision of staff and for ensuring that his instructions are strictly observed.
Requirements:
- 1 year experience as Chief Engineer onboard Tankers within last 5 years
- STCW2010 Endorsement
- Physically fit for sea service as per MLC requirement
