Guangxin Shipbuilding & Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., originally recognized as GMG Shipbuilding & Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as GSHI), operates as a joint Chinese-foreign enterprise dedicated to the development and production of marine engineering equipment and specialized vessels. This venture is spearheaded and managed by the Guangdong Machinery Import & Export Co., Ltd. (shortened to GMG), a part of the extensive Guangdong Guangxin Holdings Group Ltd. Situated within the Linhai Industrial Park in Zhongshan, the shipyard spans an area of 382,000 square meters and boasts a coastline of 780 meters, making it a prominent construction initiative endorsed by the Guangdong Province in 2009.

GSHI’s infrastructure includes a diverse range of facilities such as a dock capable of accommodating 100,000 tons, complemented by a 600-ton gantry crane. Additionally, there is a semi-dock berth with a 30,000-ton capacity and a 200-ton gantry crane, a 600-meter long fitting-out quay, and a factory building covering 80,000 square meters. With these resources, the facility has set a target for an annual shipbuilding capacity of 1 million tons, aiming for an annual revenue generation of RMB 4 billion. Since commencing its shipbuilding operations in late March 2009, GSHI quickly marked its presence by constructing and launching its first vessel, an 11,000-ton salt carrier, in early December of the same year, distinguishing itself by producing the first vessel over 10,000 tons in Zhongshan Municipality.

In the years following its inception, GSHI garnered significant accolades and achievements. By May 2010, it had been recognized among the top 500 modern industrial enterprises within Guangdong. The shipyard's Technology Center was heralded as a Municipal-level Enterprise Technology Center in Zhongshan Municipality by July 2010, thanks to its 20-plus research & development projects and patents. By mid-2011, GSHI had not only established a comprehensive production system but had also received certification from Lloyd's Register of Shipping for its quality management system. Furthermore, the enterprise underwent a successful reorganization and share system reform, approved by various provincial and municipal authorities, solidifying its status as a key project under Guangdong's 12th Five-Year Plan by July 2011.
