The takeover of the facility by Damen Shiprepair & Conversion on 1 February 2017, originally established as the Curaçao Drydock Company in 1959, marked a new chapter. Operating under the new name, Damen Shiprepair Curaçao, the facility pledges to continue its comprehensive offerings encompassing maintenance, repair, refurbishment, and conversion for a broad spectrum of marine and offshore constructs, irrespective of size.

Boasting two excavated docks and extending nearly 2 kilometers of quayside equipped with thirteen cranes, the shipyard is well-prepared to service vessels as large as 150,000 DWT. An augmentation of its capacity is anticipated with the introduction of a floating dock. The strategic locale of the shipyard at the intersection of pivotal maritime corridors, combined with over half a century of operational experience, adherence to international standards, and the backing of the Damen Shipyards Group, are among its most noteworthy benefits. The yard prides itself on possessing ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certifications for its Quality and Environmental Management Systems respectively, with a renewal of these certifications in 2016, signifying its commitment to excellence and environmental stewardship.

The Damen Shiprepair Curaçao is nestled within a natural lagoon that offers shelter from strong winds and swells, enhancing the working conditions. Among its notable facilities is the Antillia graven dock, measuring 280 meters in length and 48 meters in width, with docking capacities of up to 150,000 tonnes, ranking it amongst the largest in the Caribbean. A secondary excavated dock measures 193 by 26 meters, and plans were in place in 2017 to supplement these with two floating docks. The site also features 1.5 kilometers of repair quay and an additional more than 500 meters of mooring quay, ensuring ample space for various maritime operations.

Established in 1988 under the name Foarocean Marine Shipyard by three founders originating from the sectors of deep-sea fishing, shipbuilding, and repairs, Damen Shipyards Cape Town initially began operations as a closed corporation. By 1994, it transitioned into a private entity. The culmination of 2007 saw this entity becoming part of the Damen Shipyards Group following the acquisition of its assets and workforce. Consequently, Damen Shipyards Cape Town (Pty) Ltd was formed, with Montsi Investments holding a 30% ownership stake. Presently, the shipyard boasts the capacity to construct up to ten vessels annually.

For over two decades, a collaborative relationship flourished between Damen and Farocean Marine, largely facilitated through the Damen Technical Cooperation programme. This partnership was highlighted in 1998 with the launch of the first Damen Stan Tug 1906/2006, marking the beginning of numerous Damen-designed ships being manufactured within the Cape Town facility. Beyond our primary facilities, we extend drydocking services from both Dubai and Fujairah sites. Specifically, our Dubai operations are capable of undertaking drydocking repairs in Al Jadaf and Dubai Maritime City, facilitating the accommodation of vessels measuring up to 130 x 33 metres. Damen Shiprepair Brest (DSBr) distinguishes itself as a prominent repair facility decked out with contemporary amenities. Featuring three sizable dry docks, with the paramount one measuring an expansive 420 by 80 meters, it ranks among the largest in the entirety of Europe. This scale of infrastructure enables the shipyard to service virtually any maritime vessel from around the globe.

Over the course of the last quarter-century, DSBr has successfully performed maintenance and repair services for a myriad of ships. The diversity of its clientele is vast, encompassing crude oil tankers, product tankers, and shuttle tankers, in addition to ferries, oil rigs, bulk carriers, and container vessels. Located in close proximity to the Den Helder offshore hub and the largest maritime base in the country, Damen Shiprepair Den Helder (DSDH) is strategically positioned. Our shipyard is equipped to service vessels measuring up to 115 metres in length, showcasing our readiness to handle a significant range of maritime needs. Positioned along the Romanian coast of the Black Sea, Damen Shipyards Mangalia operates as a collaborative endeavor between Damen and the Romanian Government, with Damen at the helm of the shipyard’s management. This shipyard stands as the most expansive within the Damen group, enabling the construction and revamping of more sizable and intricate ships than ever before, focusing particularly on RoPax ferries, cruise ships, large offshore vessels, and offshore infrastructures.

Encompassing an extensive area of nearly one million square meters, Damen Shipyards Mangalia boasts a quayside stretching 1590 meters. It is equipped with three dry docks, varying in size from 302 by 48 meters to 360 by 60 meters, complemented by adequate craneage. The shipyard is also home to a wide array of workshops and possesses the capability for both new construction and repair tasks, including facilities for steel processing and painting of high capacity.

Initially known as the 2 Mai Mangalia Shipyard, the establishment embarked on its shipbuilding journey in 1976. In 1997, the helm was passed to Daewoo-Mangalia Heavy Industries S.A., pivoting its focus towards the construction of large container ships, bulk carriers, and tankers. The year 2017 marked a significant transition when Damen acquired Daewoo’s stakes, subsequently assuming operational control by the summer of 2018.
